Robots and CNC (Computer Numeric Control) machines are already being massively used in industrialized nations. I think that there are more negative aspects of the excessive applications of mechanical intelligence than benefits.The graph compares the rate of smoking of men and women in Someland between the years 1960 and 2000.
Taking the brighter side into consideration first, Artificial Intelligence can be a great help for human in many ways. Firstly, robots are far efficient and accurate than humans in performing many actions in factories. As a result, production units are able to operate faster and generate better quality goods. In developed nations such as US and Japan, most jobs are performed by hi-tech machines in major industries. Secondly, robots can easily work in hostile environment, like space exploration programs or under water research projects, where humans have life risks. A company in Australia recently featured its fire-fighting robot which claims to act efficiently in emergency and minimize casualty. Therefore, this technological development has greatly improved human productivity in many key areas.
However, the ill effects of AI cannot be overlooked. The biggest threat linked with robotics is that it can cause mass destruction if misused or mishandled because it does not have self-judgment and emotions. Such a scenario is often depicted in Hollywood movies that seem catastrophic. Another major problem that is caused by overuse of robots and machine is the increasing unemployment around the globe. This situation can become worse in future as more and more industries are relying over technology rather than manual efforts. ‘What will more than 6 billion people do on this planet?’ this is the burning question before human race if intelligent machines keep replacing humans.
In conclusion, Artificial Intelligence is a boon as long as it remains under control and used wisely by humans. Otherwise, it has the potential to wipe out entire humanity if turns hostile.
